NEW YORK, NY Wednesday, July 18, 2018 — Jamaicans overseas are being encouraged to remain steadfast in their vision of achieving spiritual renewal in their homeland.

In messages marking the fourteenth anniversary of the Global Day of Prayer and Fasting (JDOP), a Diaspora clergy initiative started in 2004, in New York City, leaders throughout the diaspora have expressed optimism that the initiative will bring healing and transformation.

For Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, ON, fasting and prayer are essential ways to maintain peace and good order in our homes, our churches, and our country.

“As you engage in fervent, persevering prayer on this special Day of Intercessory Prayer and Fasting, I join you in praying that our country “under God, increase in beauty fellowship and prosperity and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race.”

Noting the significant level of social indiscipline and challenges to national security in recent times, Lloyd Wilks, Consul General to Toronto, says the intense and targeted intercessions have enabled our great nation and powerful people to continue to look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

“In recognizing and celebrating the achievements and strides that Jamaica has accomplished since receiving independence, I am compelled to highlight the insightful initiation of this faithful movement and stand in solidarity with you in praying for our nation, as I am convinced that God will respond favourably to collective prayer, done earnestly,” offered CG Wilks.

Cecile Christie, acting Consul General to Miami, says that our strong Christian heritage should not be taken for granted.

“Given our strong Christian heritage, it is fitting that we take this time to call upon the Eternal Father for guidance, wisdom, vision, and strength as we join hands and hearts in the task of nation-building”. May this be a time of refreshing and empowerment as we look to God for His blessings on Jamaica, Land We Love, so that we may, indeed “live quiet and peaceable lives in all Godliness and honesty,” she noted.

They were joined by leaders from New York City, Ottawa (Canada), and the United Kingdom, in commending the Steering Committee of the Jamaica Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting (JDOP) and the Brooklyn-based Intercessory Prayer Ministry International (IPMI), for their dedicated service in coordinating this significant event over the years and providing generous financial support to vulnerable, at-risk persons in Jamaica.

On Wednesday, August 1, 2018 – Emancipation Day, a public holiday in Jamaica – Jamaicans and friends of the island nation, in the Diaspora, will take time out of their busy schedule to offer prayers for the beloved nation’s spiritual renewal and transformation, at some 20 churches and places of worship, worldwide.

Offerings taken at the prayer services, benefit registered charities in Jamaica.
