PSALM 91:9,
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no disaster will come near your tent.
This passage promises protection from sickness as a blessing of the redeemed life. The word "plague" is used of something "inflicted" on a body, and specifically was used to refer to "spots of leprosy."
Here the Lord describes an abiding defense against "inflicted" disease, but the promise is conditioned upon making the Lord our true refuge and habitation. How can we do this?
Two Hebrew words in verse 9 give us the answer. The word makhseh translated "refuge," which means "a shelter" "a place of trust," and from its root means to "fee for protection," "to confide in." Maureen translated "dwelling place," which indicates "a retreat." It comes from the root "onah," that describes the security of intimacy, "dwelling together as in marriage."
These keywords elaborate a principle. When we make the Lord our refuge and habitation by trusting Him spending times of refreshing with Him, and by loving Him and walking closely with him through every day, we enter into a sheltered place of promise. This truth safeguards against making prayer for healing only for emergencies, though some do.
Maintain fellowship with God and discover His mercy.
