 NEW YORK(JIS):

Monday, June 16, 2008

Rev. Joel EdwardsRev. Joel EdwardsDistinguished UK clergyman, Rev. Dr. Joel Edwards, will deliver the keynote address at the annual pastors and leaders symposium organized by the New York-based Intercessory Prayer Ministry International (IPMI).

The two-day event will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel, JFK International Airport in Queens, New York on June 20 and 21.

Rev. Edwards, who is Director General of the Evangelical Alliance in the United Kingdom, will speak on the theme: 'Evangelicalism and Transformational Development'. He will explore the engagement of the Evangelical faith in social, economic and political matters and how devoted Christians can become agents of transformation and development within the wider community.

"This is a relevant issue against the background of a secular culture in which pastors are increasingly faced with the challenge of how to do effective Evangelism in the context of a world that is no longer church-centered," said Rev. Newton Gabbidon, President and Chief Executive Officer of IPMI.

According to Rev. Gabbidon, "there is high interest in this year's event, both from the relevance of the issues to be discussed, as well as from the quality of the theological scholarship and social activism and ecumenical interest exemplified by Rev. Edwards." The Jamaican clergyman is one of the first honorary canons of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, which is a rare appointment for a non-Church of England clergyman.

The two-day symposium is expected to draw attention and participation from civic and business leaders, collegiate and seminary students, social and political activists, among others.

IPMI spokesman, Rev. Andrew Bennett, said that the event forms part of the group's core mission of providing for the spiritual needs of individuals, churches, and nations through offerings of revival.

IPMI is a Christian organization that is based in Brooklyn, New York.  Its mission is to facilitate revival in the church for the healing and transformation of nations.  IPMI is hosting the Symposium in pursuit of this mission.
