Expectation of Jesus' Return

Rev. William Ilnisky

Scripture: TITUS 2:13

The English word "hope" is translated from the Greek meaning "A CONFIDENT EXPECTATION."  The believer is to confidently expect (i. e., to have full assurance without doubt) that the Lord will fulfill every promise He has made.
"Wait for" depicts the believers' eager expectancy as they look "for the blessed hope," the personal return of Jesus who will consummate our bliss in eternal glory.  The present tense marks this waiting as the characteristic attitude of believers, ever ready to welcome the returning Lord.

The Greek connects "the blessed hope and glorious appearing" under one article, suggesting that the reference is to one event viewed from two aspects.  For believers, it is the blessed hope and the longed-for consummation of that hope.  For Jesus, this awaited "glorious appearing" will vindicate His character as the Lord of Glory.  "Glorious appearing" is more literally "appearing of the glory" and points to His present glorification in heaven.  Now unrecognized and disregarded by the world, His glory at His return will be manifested in its entire splendor (His future epiphany in glory).  His first coming was with fullness of grace (Titus 2:11).  His second coming will be in the fullness of glory.  The primary sense is that Jesus is coming again, and He will be seen in His true glory, and majesty.  This is our blessed hope!

Life Application:

Ask the Holy Spirit.

Praise/Prayer:

Oh, my Father, what a difference between Jesus' first coming (lowly, and with humble people), and His second coming when He will be seen in His true glory, and majesty.  What a spectacular event that will be when Jesus receives what is rightfully His.  His first coming was as a humble carpenter in Nazareth.  His second coming will be with the glory that is rightfully His.  Wow, what the world is in for when He visits earth again!  They will see Him whom they have scoffed, whose name they have maligned, and used profanely.  The King of kings, and the Lord of lords! Amen!
