Abounding in the Hope by the Power of the Holy Spirit

Rev. William Ilnisky

Scripture:  Romans 15:13

Paul had a beautiful way of concluding an argument with a benediction. Here it is: "The God of hope." There is nothing hopeless about the Christian experience. "The God of hope" is both the One who gives hope and the object of that hope. It has long ago been said that there are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them.

It is told that there was a cabinet meeting in the darkest days of World War II, just after France had capitulated. Mr. Churchill outlined the situation in its starkest colors. Britain stood alone. There was a silence when he had finished speaking, and on some faces was written despair, and some would have given up the struggle. Mr. Churchill looked around that dispirited company. "Gentlemen," he said, "I find it rather inspiring." There is something in Christian hope that no shadow can obliterate---and that something is the conviction that God is alive.

No one is hopeless so long as there are the promises of Jesus; and no situation is hopeless so long as hope is in God, the one who sees the end from the beginning. The result of joy, and peace abounds "through the power of the Holy Spirit. Christian joy is not dependent on things outside of a person; its source is in our consciousness of the presence of the living Lord, the certainty that nothing can separate us from the love of God. So whatever the situation you are experiencing now, face it with the realization that the "God of Hope" is there with you, and expect Him to provide you with the right amount of peace, and joy.

Life Application:

Ask the Holy Spirit.

Praise/Prayer:

Dear Father, I am so thankful for Your love and care for Your children.  You want us to come to You when things just aren't going right, and we don't know what to do about them.  I use the plural, because seldom do problems come one at a time.  I am so thankful that You know exactly what we need, and how much of it we need along with peace and joy to carry us through the dark of the night.  You always cause the sun to shine, the birds to sing, and the clouds to blow away, and we get the right perspective again.  You are so faithful. Amen!
