Attendees at the 2005 Annual Prayer Breakfast

The International Prayer Breakfast was inaugerated on the second Saturday of July, 1997 at the United Methodist Church Hall on Avenue D in Brooklyn, New York. The event attracted approximately 120 persons primarily of Caribbean descent from various denominations from New York City and Long Island. Since 1998 the event has been held annually at the Holiday Inn, JFK Airport (now New York Hilton, JFK Airport) on the third Saturday of June attracting  200 – 300 persons from various denominations from the US and the Caribbean.

Guest speakers over the years have included a number of prominent Christian leaders such as Rev. Jacqueline McCullough, Bishop Joseph Garlington, Dr. Myles Munroe, Dr. David Ireland and Rev. Jim Cymbala of the Brooklyn Tabernacle.

The prayer Breakfast has inspired and helped to give birth to such global initiatives as the Monthly Global Prayer Teleconference (MGPT) and the  Annual Jamaican Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting (JDOP).

The MGPT is hosted monthly for one hour on first Thursdays (9 PM EST),  as well as, the Friday (4 PM EST) and Saturday (9 AM ET) following first Thursdays.  These powerful times of prayer  are facilitated by leaders  from various nations, including India, Africa, the United Kingdom, Belize (SA), Jamaica, and various states in the United Sates.

JDOP facilitates and provides an opportunity around the August 1 Jamaica Emancipation holiday each year for pastors and Christians from the Jamaican Diaspora in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to fast and pray for revival in Jamaica. The project also provides financial support each year to two Jamaican charities involved with at risk young Jamaican males and females through mentoring and other social intervention programs.
