From The Honorary Chairman

By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and wept when we remembered Zion…If I forget you oh Jerusalem may my right hand forget its skill, may my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you…”( Psalm 137: 1, 5 & 6). The Palmist gives us language to describe our burning passion for Jamaica when we hear of the difficulties that overwhelm our compatriots at home.  Therefore, on August 1, 2011, we renew, for the seventh year running, our commitment to intercessory prayer on behalf of “Jamaica Land We Love” and invite all Jamaicans to join us on that day in prayer and fasting.

Seventh Jamaican Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting

Dear Fellow Jamaicans and Friends,

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins and heal their land.”
Inspired by words like these from the Holy Scriptures, President Abraham Lincoln, in 1863, during a time of national crisis, proclaimed a national day of prayer and fasting in the American Republic.  Calling his fellow Americans to unite together in observance of this special time of prayer and fasting, he declared the following words:
“it is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord…”
We are deeply inspired by such sobering words as we consider the major challenges facing our beloved homeland of Jamaica.  As we invite fellow Jamaicans here in the Diaspora, in response to the crisis facing the homeland, to join in observance of this, the Seventh Jamaican Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting, it is our hope that during this special time of prayer and fasting, we will humble ourselves in recognition of the sins of our nation and seek His pardon.  It is based on this type of genuine repentance that we can be assured of His blessings to be extended to the nation, in the coming days.  That is why, on Monday, August 1 we invite fellow Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica in Canada, the United Kingdom and in the USA to join us for the Seventh Jamaican Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting for spiritual renewal and transformation in the homeland.
