Welcome to the Annual Schools of Prayer, a program specially designed for helping churches that are struggling with prayer. Through these specially designed series on prayer, a local church is encouraged to build strong and stable prayer ministries to facilitate the growth and development of the congregation for the transformation of their communities. Are you a local church pastor with a congregation that is struggling with prayer? Why not consider having a school of prayer at your congregation?
About the Schools of Prayer
Over the past few years IPMI has conducted an annual school of prayer in different locations in New York, attracting intercessors and prayer leaders from across New York City and Long Island. Since 2003 the school has expanded outside of New York to include Georgia and New Jersey.
The purpose of the school is to provide intercessors, pastors and congregations an opportunity to explore important concepts about prayer and intercession providing both an in depth biblical/theological and practical focus. The schools of prayer have received high commendation from pastors and congregations, which have hosted schools of prayer annually. Following is a list of churches where schools of prayer have been hosted over the years:
Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene
Elim Missionary Church, Patterson, New Jersey
First Assembly of God, New Rochelle, New York
Hempstead Assembly of God, Long Island, New York
Highland Church, Queens, New York
Lennox Road Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York
Rehoboth Open Bible Church, Brooklyn, New York
Restoration Community Church, Gainesville, Georgia
Restoration Temple, Brooklyn, New York
The Christian Embassy, Athens, Georgia
Although IPMI does some form of advertising for the schools of prayer, most host churches generally take full responsibility for promotion. Host pastors, like Rev. Aubyn Barnabie from First Assembly of God Church in New Rochelle, has also used the opportunity to invite other churches of different denominations from New Rochelle and other adjoining communities to participate with him in hosting the schools.
What Pastors Are Saying About the School of Prayer
I am grateful for the encouragement and support that IPMI, through programs like the School of Prayer, has brought to the continued growth and renewal of our church. Several years ago after concluding the IPMI Twenty-one Days of Prayer and Fasting, we decided to add the Thursday morning prayer meeting which has benefited our congregation as well as those in our community. We thank Rev. Newton Gabbidon for coming along side us in the task of training leaders for the harvest. It has been our privilege to see the work of the Holy Spirit in our midst. To God be the Glory!Former Senior Pastor, Rehoboth Open Bible Church Brooklyn, New York
Rehoboth Open Bible Church has hosted the annual School of Prayer for a number of years. The school is such an important part of our ministry that it is now a fixture on the calendar. We now speak of it as “our” school, with “guest presenters” from IPMI. It is a joy to have presenters who have spent time in the study coming to a biblical understanding of the matter of prayer. They come schooled with good stuff with which to educate us. It is also a joy to know that these people have also given themselves to the manner and practice of prayer, so they come as fervent practitioners of prayer, leading the school in prayer, with the heart, in spirit and in truth. The school helps the church as individuals grow in their understanding and practice of prayer and as they apply it to the church’s prayer ministry.
